These terms apply to the Read2Unlock app and parent portal. By using Read2Unlock you agree to these terms. Questions? Email support@read2unlock.com.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading and using Read2Unlock ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. These terms apply to all users including parents, guardians, and children.

2. Who Can Use the App

Read2Unlock is designed for children ages 4–12 under parental supervision. Parent accounts must be created and managed by adults (18+). Children use the app under the parent account's supervision.

3. Account and Data

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. We collect the following data:

Audio recordings are sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription and are not stored permanently. Story generation uses Anthropic Claude and is not stored beyond the session.

5. Subscription and Payments

Read2Unlock offers a free tier and paid subscription plans (Core and Family). Paid subscriptions are purchased and managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and are subject to their respective payment terms.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. To cancel, open your App Store or Google Play subscription settings and turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the next billing date. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time.

A 7-day free trial is available for Core and Family plans. Your payment method will not be charged during the trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription will automatically begin and your payment method will be charged at the plan rate.

6. App Locking Feature

The entertainment lock feature requires Usage Access and Display Over Other Apps permissions on Android. These permissions are used solely to detect when your child has met their reading goal and to show reading reminders. We do not collect, sell, or share app usage data with third parties.

7. Intellectual Property

Books available in the library are sourced from Project Gutenberg and are in the public domain. AI-generated stories are created for personal use only. The Read2Unlock name, logo, and app design are property of Steel Miller / Read2Unlock.

8. Limitation of Liability

Read2Unlock is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for data loss, device issues, or any indirect damages arising from use of the App. The app is not a substitute for professional educational assessment.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

We are committed to protecting children's privacy. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond what is necessary to provide the reading service (child's first name and age). Parents can request deletion of their child's data at any time by contacting us at support@read2unlock.com.

10. Account Deletion

You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Read2Unlock app: Parent Settings → Delete Account. Deletion removes all data and the sign-in account. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance. We will notify users of significant changes.
